K.Yu. Zhizhin is a specialist in chemistry of clusters of non-transition elements and materials based on them. He has been working at IGIC RAS since 1994; from 2009 to 2015 – Head of the Hydride Chemistry Sector, from February 2015 to the present day – Deputy Director for Science. For many years, K.Yu. Zhizhin has been working as Professor at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology named after M.V. Lomonosov (currently, the Moscow Technological University MIREA). K.Yu. Zhizhin is Chairman of the State Examination Board at the Moscow State University, Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.
K.Yu. Zhizhin attracts students from MIREA, Mendeleev University, and Higher Chemical College RAS to the scientific work at the Institute. A number of his students successfully defended their Ph.D. theses and currently work in IGIC RAS. Under his supervision, 8 Ph.Ds. and 14 Master’s theses were prepared and successively defended. He is currently a supervisor of three postgraduate students. He is the grantee and participant of more than 15 scientific projects supported by the programs of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Council for Grants of the President of the Russian Federation, and Russian Science Foundation. K.Yu. Zhizhin is Deputy Chairman of the Expert Council for Inorganic Chemistry of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Inorganic Chemistry, Member of Scientific Boards of IGIC RAS and MIREA, Member of the Dissertation Boards at IGIC RAS, MIREA, the Mendeleev University.
K.Yu. Zhizhin is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Russian Journal of Inorganic Chemistry and Member of the Editorial Board of the journal Fine Chemical Technologies. K.Yu. Zhizhin is Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology (2003), L.A. Chugaev Prize of the Russian Academy of Science (2006), MAIK Science/Interperiodica Awards (2003, 2013); in 2016, he was awarded the honorary title “RAS Professor”. In 2016, he was elected Corresponding Member of RAS at the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences (inorganic chemistry).
